Don't know if everyone has one. Aside from that, I'm not always at the computer to use it. That's why so many threads exist. One for each thing.

Time to talk about how much these characters know about Pokémon. It always amused me how these people live in a world that revolves around Pokémon and is obsessed with them from every conceivable angle, yet Trainers know less about them than the average real-world Pokémon fan.
So how will this game handle that? Does Max already know that this is a Bidoof or does he need to scan it with the Pokédex first? If he does know it's a Bidoof, does he know its type? Its normal stats? Movelist?

Rarer ones require you to scan it with the Dex first. The Pokedex will tell you everything about it, but I would say it takes an Extended Action to pull up more than the most basic information (Species, Type). If you try to go pulling up Move lists mid-battle, you're gonna have a bad time.

Ah. I see what happened. I somehow mistook your roll for Gengar's. Dunno how. My bad. I'll get you set up real quick here.

Is there any standard we'll use to determine what is rare and what isn't or is it more like just a common sense kind of thing?

Okay, great, got it. Thank you. Is there any standard we'll use to determine what is rare and what isn't or is it more like just a common sense kind of thing? Mainly it's common sense. This is presently based around what you might encounter in the games. Near "beginner areas", you're more likely to encounter "beginner" pokemon. Usually these will be underdogs. Does that make sense? Edit: Since it's bound to come up at some point, any pokemon you capture are fully customizable. You determine their nature/gender when you capture them. Fluff reasons being that most pokemon's gender cannot be identified by a single glance. A few exceptions exist, of course, but those are few and far between.

Ugh, want the bidoof OoC, but I can't see JoJo coming running for one. She wants backup dancers and she doesn't know bidoofs are simple

She doesn't? What would you say, GM. Given what we just established about Trainer knowledge being inversely proportionate to Pokémon rarity, wouldn't we all very much know about the common Bidoof and how goofy and simple it is? Wouldn't that be common knowledge akin to 'Magikarp are weak as hell' and 'Slowpoke have the lights on but nobody's home'?

Well, the "established facts" are meant to be common knowledge to the average person, but that certainly doesn't mean that everyone knows. If madviser wants to RP their character as not knowing, that's up to them.

Well technically JoJo has above average knowledge of pokemon (Novice Pokemon Ed), but knowing that bidoof are generally a bit simple and straightforward doesn't mean knowing offhand that they draw power from their simplicity to truly gain enlightenment from dancing (i.e. having the simple ability). Lots of pokemon are just kinda dumb without necessarily being zen-empowerment dumb

Also I feel slightly evil. The dreaded YOLO ball has always been a curse in my games that I ran for friends because it oversimplified combat. However, Billie Jean is as of right now, a lover, not a fighter, so I'm glad to avoid unnecessary bloodshed (plus I think a quick tap from a steel energy sphere is a bit better than getting the daylights beaten out of you and then tapped by a steel energy sphere.

Cool. Of course players can choose to play their characters as less-informed than normal on a case-by-case basis. *smacks self on head* I'd have thought of that on my own if I'd been thinking at all, lol. Thanks for the answers anyway, though.
